Are you like paying to work for someone :S

1) You go thru the list of available works on the job boards. The work is usually called project.
2) You examine the project requirements and select one that you can deliver the result of.
3) You briefly describe your interest and your experience, delivery time, etc in your bid response.
4) You mention your fee (it can be hourly or a fixed cost basis – however it is usually specified by the buyer) Sometimes there is a minimum and maximum allowed bid value.
5) If the buyer is interested in you – s/he will communicate via the site’s message board. Usually most of the freelance sites do not allow you to communicate with buyer/seller directly before project is offered to the seller. Some job board will even ban you if you post your contact details on your bid. so be careful in this regard.
6) You can continue communicating with buyer using the job board. You can even negotiate the bid value or delivery time or the technology etc. If everything goes alright you will be offered the job.
7) Some freelance sites have an escrow system in place. So buyer can put the bid money to the freelance site’s account. You should feel comfortable with that because your payment is now guaranteed if you successfully complete the project requirements.
So finish the project in time. If the duration is long, communicate often. If possible daily to let the buyer know about progress. If require do some interim review of the output and allow the buyer to give some feedback on your work. After project is offered to you you can usually communicate via other medium like chat, email – but check your site’s rule first.
9) After completion buyer will transfer the escrowed money to your account.

You can apply there, they gonna ask you a bunch of questions and probably ask for some example of your work, once you are accepted, you can get $25,000 per month if you are good.

Do I need a USA tax number? How would I get paid for my writing and prevent being shammed?

You do not need a USA TAX number. The companies deal with the taxes, because they are the ones getting paid by other people. The most you will have to worry about is filling out an Online W-9 form. But you aren’t a U.S. citizen so you wont have to worry about that anyway.

And a word of advice about freelance writing, It pays very little starting off.

Despite your medical condition, there are numerous ways that you can make money online. Since it seems as if you have some really good virtual assistant skills, I would strongly consider that you apply for positions as a virtual assistant. The good thing about being a virtual assistant is that you could use your web browsing, wordprocessing and research skills to make money. Plus, if you get with the right company or client, you could set your own hours, rates and work when you are able.

There are numerous people, all around the world, that are living productive lives with conditions like yours who hold similar positions. Although there are some companies that hire VAs directly, I suggest that you build your own business.

My suggestion would be to check out bidding sites, like Elance, and build a strong profile, Include writing samples of emails, wordprocessing, etc. You can then apply for projects that specifically require someone with your skills and availability.

When you bid, however, don’t just place generic bids. Instead, be specific about what you can bring to a potential employer and only bid on projects with reputable buyers with proven track records of paying contractors. The good thing about Elance is that it you can view feedback of a buyer and figure out which buyers actually hire providers and which ones have a good or bad reputation before you bid. You can also view what other providers have said about this particular buyer and then use the information to your benefit.

Remember that the more projects you bid on, the more likely you are to receive a gig. To date, I have completed over 700 projects for Elance and I am confident that you’ll find some great jobs despite your medical condition.

There are tons and tons of sites out there. You should try gonogging.com. What’s cool is that other then just using it to find jobs you can put your work up for sale, so you could make templates or generic logos and put them up there.

sometimes schools have freelance projects that people have come to them to have students do…ask your career services department.

also, friends and families are good.

and also going out to local businesses and giving them your card (just make sure you have some work online up so they can see your talent)
