I work full time and also freelance on the side. I am going to go on maternity leave in the near future and might have the opportunity to work on a freelance project. If I’m collecting SDI from CA, am I allowed to freelance during that time? What about FMLA pay too?

If you aren’t allowed to work during that time, is there a way to work on projects and then bill the client after the leave/SDI/FMLA ends? I will claim taxes on it, and I don’t want to be prosecuted for fraud. ??

I am writing a story, and I need help to know a few places with good references about piracy in Florida, particularly in the St. Augustine area. So far all I have found is two sentences on a 1668 raid where most of the citizens of St. Augustine were killed, but I’m not sure how credible my source is. There is a website called www.guru.com where freelancers etc can look for work and employers post projects.

The trouble is it is an American site and although it does work with the UK i would prefer to find a similar one closer to home.

Guru does work well but does anyone else know of a similar website? UK is prefered but I am still open to international sites.

my guess is that you can start doing some projects with your own team, them maybe get publicity through your community (real or virtual). That way, you can draw attention to your skill-sets, and hopefully get the freelancing opportunity you are looking for.
