I have visited many freelance websites but they all ask for bid. And I have bidded on many of them, but nothing happens, many of my past friends do freelance projcts, they told me that they connect straight to the people who give freelance projects. So If there is any body who give freelance projects or know any good address please contact me.

Freelance projects are not simply connected, but they are handed out through building good relationships. Once you connect with a client through the bidding process, they are likely to give you additional projects automatically.

I’ve posted many projects through freelance sites and each time, I receive bids from companies all around the world. Some good, most bad. I can say that I never turn anybody down unless there is something significantly wrong with what they are proposing (approach, price or expertise). If you have bid on a good amount of projects without reply, I’m guessing that you may need to refine your approach or offerings.

You may want to check out the website Elance for a better overview of the market. There, you can see projects that people have up for bid and the companies that compete for them. It’s a good perspective on the market, as a whole, and you can often see what makes one bidder stand out against the rest. Model yourself after some of the winners, and I’m sure you’ll do well.

a friend’s mum hired me to do some work on photoshop… basically i change all the english text on a 4 page toy manual to spanish text. (there wasn’t a lot of text… probably like 20 lines?) it took me about 2 hours. usually how much do people charge?

Sure you can charge less money because it’s a family friend, or you can do it for free for your portfolio, but if you’re serious about it I would recommend charging the full amount.

Generally the rule I go by is discounts are for immediate family only. It doesn’t hurt to do a bit for free to beef up your portfolio, but if you’re charging for it, charge the full amount. If you start giving discounts, word will get around and they’ll expect that price every time. If you’re capable of accomplishing what the client wants, you should be charging as much as a seasoned professional. You’re providing the same service they would.

You will be hard pressed to find freelance work without any bidding. Even if you do it thru a connection, they’ll still want you to tell them how much it is goingt to cost.

Here are some ways to get freelance gigs:

1) Do some limited pro-bono work for some non-profit. If they like your work, they may hire you for more, or tell others about you. And, it will build your portfolio.

2) Underbid a few projects to build your portfolio, name recognition, experience and client base, all while getting paid (maybe not as well as you’de like, but better than nothiing).

3) Network! Give out your card with a link to your portfolio website on it. Give it out everywhere. Don’t be obnoxious, but be assertive enough.

4) Bid. If you get one deal it will be worth it. If they love your work, they’ll hire you for more work, and tell their friends/business partners about you, getting you more clients.

I have excellent computer skills and can learn almost any program. I have a home office with many software titles to work from. Not looking to pay anyone to get started.

Sites like scriptlance.com, guru.com, elance.com and rentacoder.com are good for finding small projects. Unfortunately you will have to compete to pretty low prices. If you are looking for freelancing more seriously, you would probably consider building a website, blog, connections, brand etc

I’d put together the best web site I possibly could, link it to other sites with really useful resources, then e-mail those sites to let them know you’ve linked to them. Often, they will give you a link back as a courtesy. That way, you can get some notice without needing to warp your content to pull in the search engines. As a part of your site, let people know you are available to do web sites on a freelance basis.

The only web designer I ever considered hiring (I was once a printer; can’t stand having anyone else design anything for me, and graphic design is graphic design, so it was only considered) got my attention that way. Sure, it didn’t lead to work in my case, but those who know me would tell you even getting me to think about it was an achievement.
