This is probably not at all what you are looking for…..but
epinions.com is a site where you submit your reviews and they are rated and you earn money (not much though) based on how well rated your reviews are. If you sign up for it use me as your reference (Sarah13Rose), because they give people money for referring others. Also, if you sign up find me on there and I will rate all of your reviews for you.

i have been asked to write some copy for a brochure and have no idea what to charge…
A dollar a word? There is no way you will get back enough to compensate for the time and effort you put into it.
You need to be part deranged to get into a freelance profession. You also need to have a nervous system of steel.
I recently found a new paid writing site and am slightly suspicious of it as it doesn’t look hugely professional – has anyone else used SharedLog project before, and if so, please advise:
a) if they actually pay?
b) if there’s another scam I should be aware of?
I’m not sure if it’s a scam, but with some quick searching, I found this site (www.shatm.com) which I assume to be the one you’re talking about. At $5-7 per article, you’re not likely to earn a decent hourly wage. Even if you were able to research, write, and submit 2 reasonable-quality articles an hour (this is doubtful), you’re only earning $10-14 per hour.
It might be better than minimum wage, and it would give you some writing experience, but in my opinion, it’s not worth it. Even if you wrote 10 articles a day (which they seem to imply is the maximum they’d expect from a writer), you’d still only be earning $50 per day. You could earn an equivalent wage finding a low-skill job paying $7 per hour, at 8 hours per day.
A skilled writer should be able to earn at least $30 per hour, even when just starting out. When you start working, you will probably spend more time marketing yourself than actually writing. However, when you’re writing for money, that’s a target you should aim for (and try to exceed).

Freelance writers are hired to write any number of things: brochures, websites, press releases, newspaper articles, interviews, advertisements, scripts, marketing programs, etc. . . . basically anything requested by the client. The writer advertises himself or herself through a variety of means: word of mouth, the Internet, reputation, etc. and generally, but not always, works from his or her home. Some freelance writers do have offices. All one has to do to become a freelance writer is put the word out that one is available to write for hire. Of course, it helps to be a decent writer. If the client is not satisfied with your work, you are not likely to be paid or hired the next time. Also, recommendations from satisfied clients are very important in getting future work. Developing a portfolio of written work is very important to a freelance writer. Showing this work to a future client is one way the freelancer sells himself or herself.

I get as much research on it before you use it. However, most stay at home jobs just sound too good to be true. I suggest starting your own blog rather than give your ideas to others.
As a freelance writer of business subjects I make money by selling business information. Business information is sold to news papers, magazines, business owners, companies, or even writing a book that business people are interested in. Although I’ve written a number of successful business information books designed for a specific managerial market and still make good money from continued sells, one of my other profitable business writing subjects has been business history books commissioned by the companies I am writing for.
Since I’ve discovered Yahoo answers and learned what people are interested in, I tend to answer questions that I know something about. By knowing and being honest, I can generally get the “Best Answer” and my ratio of being selected for best answer has gone way up. Interestingly enough, I get writing ideas from the questions people are asking. So my time is well spent here and I was happy to tell you how one free lance writer is doing it.
My suggestion to you is find a subject or two you know a lot about or are willing to find information about. Then sell that information to as many places as you can. If you need some ideas on the kinds of books people are writing, I test market some of my work through http://www.lulu.com . I’d recommend you visit there and get a few ideas.
Oh, and another good question is how much money do I make as a free lancer? Even though my income is now climing in the 6 figures, it took a while to get here by doing. However, the real key is NOT working at it, but rather enjoying it. If you want to write, write about what you enjoy and you will never work again.

There are companies that have freelance article writers and I am wondering how they get started. For instance you write for a company that gets articles assigned from someone else and in turn the company that you work for is the middle man. I want to know what they do to get started on this. How do they companies set up to have millions of articles assigned to them so that they can hire these people to write freelance for them. Any websites or links that you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I have used Elance to have several jobs done and am very happy with their work. You simply list the details of your work on the website and various providers will bid for the job. You can set the finish time and other aspects of the job.

There’s one in the Rocks that I know of.
I’m not too sure where abouts though. But I know they meet every first Tuesday of the month.
