Facebook Virus

April 122010

With nearly 400,000 million Facebook users, the Facebook virus can cause a lot of havoc. It’s a worm that spreads from one member’s account to several accounts.
Simple steps can prevent you from getting the virus on your computer. The virus arrives through messaging. The message disguises itself as if from a friend. It tells you there’s a video or picture that you “just have to see” and then directs you to a download to view the video or picture. If you click on the link or open the attachment, you’ve just downloaded the virus.
You can prevent this from happening to you by contacting your friend with a quick message “hi, did you send this to me” or “hi, what is this you sent”. If they don’t know what you’re referring to, delete the message immediately without opening the attachment or clicking any links.
Use a good desktop security software that will proactively detect viruses before they reach your computer.
If you think your computer has been hit with the Facebook virus, shut down your computer, turn it back on, and run an antivirus scan. Then change all your passwords because they may have been compromised.
