Freelance Writer

I work full time and also freelance on the side. I am going to go on maternity leave in the near future and might have the opportunity to work on a freelance project. If I’m collecting SDI from CA, am I allowed to freelance during that time? What about FMLA pay too?

If you aren’t allowed to work during that time, is there a way to work on projects and then bill the client after the leave/SDI/FMLA ends? I will claim taxes on it, and I don’t want to be prosecuted for fraud. ??
