I just graduated high school, can I be a freelance writer?
February 92010
I love to write, but I can’t keep up writing and work, because in order to write well, I need considerable time.
Does one need a degree in journalism or something similar in order to become a writer, or can I begin this straight away?
People seem to be under the impression that I don’t want to go to college. I’m just taking a year off between college and high school since I just moved to the UK.
Actually, in the UK, that would be university, not college.
Yes, you can

Even a four-year-old can publish a book. You don’t need any sort of degree or anything like that.

If you own a degree – or any extra qualification – then you’ll already be ahead of the crowd when it comes to searching for vocations. My pal has a degree and he wasn’t sure what direction to go with it, but he discovered some great guidance on the resource in the resource box below which guided him to settle that he wanted to be a lab assistant. There is plenty of help on the resource regarding extra vocations.

You didn’t graduate high school, it graduated you. You were graduated from high school.

Yes you can. Whether you make it or not depends on how good you are. If you want some reassurance, go to an accomplished writer and ask them what they think about some of your work. Be prepared for criticism though.

I can give you the idealistic answer, being that you can do whatever you want right this second, or the realistic one, that it would be a HUGE benefit to go to college.
If college is not an option, make some phone calls to your local newspapers, magazines, radio stations, television stations, or other media outlets. They all need writers, and they recognize that some people just have an incredible talent. Judging from your question, I can see you at least pay attention to grammar and spelling, which is a definite plus to someone wanting to be a writer.
Talk to the media in your area, and ask about intern programs. Good luck!
