I have Always been a writer of short stories, poetry etc. But now I am interested in becoming a freelance journalist. I know things ( stories ) are not going to happen as I walk down the street. But what are the best ways of getting news stories to pitch to local newspapers ?

Is it best to get new angles on stories already in the paper ?
Or keep my ear to the Ground on places like twitter and facebook etc ?
Or just keep my ears open for stuff that I hear ?

Any help will be appreciated .

Hey Mike. It depends what kind of stories/niche you want to focus on. A good way to start as a freelance journalist is to start your own blog/online journal. You can look at my site for inspiration. Each section has different types of articles, but the focus is on entertainment.

I hope this helpful. Facebook is also a great place to find stories, as you can find people from all walks of life with stories we have never heard of.

Good luck :)
